THE BRILLINGTON JOURNAL / THE ART OF RELAXED TAILORINGBrillington relaxed rayon suit with extended shoulder and soft silhouette
Exploring softer proportions, fluid fabrics and a more effortless approach to modern men's tailoring
Not every suit needs to make a formal statement. Sometimes, its character lies in how naturally it is worn.
For this piece, we've been exploring a different expression of the classic suit silhouette, taking cues from an era when tailoring felt more relaxed, generous in proportion and quietly confident. A time when elegance wasn't necessarily defined by structure, but by the ease with which a garment was carried.
The jacket features an extended shoulder, giving the silhouette a little more presence while maintaining a relaxed attitude. Rather than relying on rigid construction, we wanted to explore a softer shape that allows the garment to move naturally with the body.
Made from rayon, the fabric brings another dimension to the design. Its fluid drape gives the suit a softer character, allowing the silhouette to fall naturally rather than hold a rigid form. Paired with relaxed proportions, the result feels considered without appearing overly dressed.
What interests us most is the versatility of this approach. Worn with a shirt and leather shoes, it retains a certain refinement. Paired with a simple T-shirt or knitwear, it moves comfortably into everyday dressing. The distinction between formal and casual becomes less rigid.
At Brillington, we believe good tailoring should leave room for personal expression. It is not always about following established rules or dressing for a particular occasion. It is about understanding proportion, appreciating the character of a fabric and knowing how to bring different elements together.
Sometimes, looking well dressed has less to do with wearing more structure and more to do with knowing when to take it away.
A different cut, a different attitude, but always with character.
Brillington. Tailoring of character.
